The Borough of Dumont will be closed on Friday, July 3rd in observance of Independence Day. The borough’s garbage collection WILL still be picked up on the east side of town tomorrow. Grass and yard debris WILL NOT be picked up. We wish everyone a happy and safe Fourth of July.

The State of New Jersey recently issued Executive Order # 157, which permits public playgrounds to reopen on July 2, 2020. After careful consideration of current state regulations and per the guidance of our risk manager, The Borough of Dumont has decided to open our playgrounds and borough fields for the use of our residents and families. We make this decision with the abundance of caution and ask all residents to use good judgment and adhere to all current CDC guidelines. The Borough of Dumont has instituted a regular cleaning schedule for playground equipment, and it is strongly recommended all residents properly clean any park equipment before and after use. Weather permitting, Dumont DPW will disinfect all playgrounds Sunday through Friday from 7 am – 9 am. There will be no scheduled cleaning on Saturdays. While borough parks and fields are now open, all public restrooms will remain closed until further notice. New Jersey is thankfully one of the few states with decreasing numbers during the COVID-19 public health crisis but we must remain vigilant and please remember the following:

  • Stay home if sick
  • Practice social distancing
  • Cover coughs and sneezes
  • Wash hands often
  • Avoid touching face
  • Wear cloth face-covering unless age or health concerns indicate otherwise
  • Recreational sports leagues are still canceled, and all high and medium risk sports included in Executive Order 149 are still prohibited

The Borough of Dumont and Dumont Little League must, unfortunately, announce the cancelation of all 2020 summer sports programs. After a careful analysis of current state guidelines and an assessment of liability due to the continuing COVID-19 public health crisis, it is regrettably not possible to safely conduct any official recreational sports at this time. Like you, we are all disappointed with this decision, but our top priority during the COVID-19 pandemic is our community's health and well-being. The Borough of Dumont and Dumont Little League prides itself on providing exceptional, professional, and a safe environment for all Dumont families and children. We look forward to working together with all the amazing members of our recreation community to safely re-open in the near future.
